La Storia

The Story of Casa Buganza

The Buganza family
Our parents, and us.

Casa Buganza began with our parents.

Our father had studied agricultural sciences and had always dreamed of one day finding a place in the countryside where he could devote himself to what he had known and loved all his life: the land, the trees, the seasons, and the way a landscape slowly changes over time.

Our mother shared his love of nature, but in her own way. Her passion was for flowers and plants, for colour, beauty and harmony.

They brought two different sensibilities to the same place: his understanding of the land and how to care for it, and her instinct for making things beautiful.

Perhaps fittingly, their own story began in London.

Their connection to England stayed with them and, years later, became part of what they imagined for Casa Buganza. In the heart of Umbria, they wanted to create something with the character of an English country garden — not formal or geometrical, but natural and seemingly effortless, a garden in which trees, flowers and meadows would blend into the countryside around them.

When they came here, they found the place where they could make that idea their own.

And they did it slowly.

They planted trees. They tended the garden. They watched it grow.

Year after year, the house and its surroundings became what they had imagined. Trees matured, flowers returned with the seasons, and the garden gradually became part of the landscape itself.

Much of what they created is still here.

For us, their daughters, Casa Buganza was simply home.

It was where we spent our summers and our days together. Where we ate outside, walked through the garden and lived with the scent of grass and flowers. Where evenings became wonderfully quiet.

It gave us that extraordinary feeling of being far away from everything, while knowing we were exactly where we belonged.

Our father is no longer with us.

And as we thought about the future of Casa Buganza, we realised that we did not want something our parents had created with so much care and love to become simply a place we preserved.

We wanted it to remain alive.

That is why we decided to open Casa Buganza to others.

We hope that the people who come here will sit beneath the trees our parents planted, walk through the garden they created, watch the sun set over the Umbrian countryside and experience the quiet of this place for themselves.

And perhaps, for a little while, feel at home here too.

For us, sharing Casa Buganza is a way of continuing what our parents began.

Their love of the land. Her flowers. His trees.
Their love for one another. And the home they created together.

Every new person who comes through the gates becomes, in some small way, part of that continuing story.

Welcome to Casa Buganza.

Our home. Their story. A place to share.

"Un luogo dove il tempo scorre dolcemente, e ogni momento è una piccola cerimonia."
